LVIV COUNTERFEITERS LOSE $500,000 IN FUNNY MONEY

Law enforcement officers of the Lychakivsky district of Lviv have arrested a group of counterfeiters, seizing $477,800 in bogus US $100 bills. In addition the culprits lost three automobiles, a Beretta pistol, and all the equipment used in their creative efforts.

Among the four held is an engineer-programmer working in the Lviv Computer Technology and Information Sciences Corporation. His three accomplices work in local commercial organizations (two of them were convicted of robbery in the past). According to the report given to our correspondent Yuri Tymchuk by the City Internal Affairs Chief, Col. Bohdan Shkarada, the typeset quality of this faked money is very high. And according to preliminary information the facilities used by the forgers were manufactured not only in Lviv but also abroad. The equipment seems to be multipurpose, able to make portraits of Jefferson, Elizabeth II, and even Taras Shevchenko. But, it seems, the hryvnia is not all that popular just now.
