1847: Russia’s tsarist government issues an ukase allowing peasants to buy freedom in case a given estate is sold at public auction.
1917: The Central Rada proclaims the Ukrainian National Republic, in which all political power belongs to the Rada and the Secretariat, while maintaining formal federative relationships with Russia.
1927: The Tenth Congress of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine condemns Trotskyism and the Shumsky nationalistic trend.
1943: The First Conference of the Captive Nations of Eastern Europe and Asia convenes in Volyn.
1994: Leonid Kuchma and Bill Clinton sign the Charter of American-Ukrainian Partnership, Friendship and Cooperation during the Ukrainian president’s official visit to the United States.
