Prize for Knowing English
Ninety Ukrainian secondary school teachers have qualified for the finals of the second round of the sixth annual contest for US-Ukrainian awards. Each was awarded teaching and resource materials worth up to $200 and their schools are to receive equipment costing up to $2,000 for achievements in teaching the English language and US civilization. On April 5 US Ambassador to Ukraine Carlos Pascual handed out awards in Kyiv to teachers and administrators of schools in Ukraine’s central and northern regions. Awards ceremonies will also be held in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Odesa. The third round will select twenty winners who will go to attend six-week in-service training courses in the US. Over the five years of this program, 75 Ukrainian school teachers have attended these courses in America, while 345 teachers have received computers, other equipment, and resource materials to be used in their schools, The Day’s Liudmyla RIABOKON reports.
