German Gift for Ukrainian Collection

27 October, 00:00

The members of a delegation from Nuremberg were the first visitors to the exhibition, which was opened in Kharkiv within the framework of the Bavarian Culture Days in Ukraine. The exhibition presents 25 engravings by the German artist Albrecht DЯrer, who was actually born in Nuremberg.

Incidentally, the prints belong to the Kharkiv Museum of Arts. Back in time they were purchased by the outstanding Slobozhanshchyna cultural figure Ivan Karazin. He founded the Kharkiv University, and donated the engravings to it. Then they gave the beginning of the Museum of Arts’ collection. Altogether there are 30 DЯrer engravings in the museum, but five are badly in need of restoration. The German guests handed over to the Museum another engraving by DЯrer called “Rhinoceros.” The print was made recently but using DЯrer’s original plate.
