A warm, emotional evening

The idea to hold a concert for young provincial musicians in Kyiv came from the famous violinist, Honored Artist of Ukraine Bohdana Pivnenko, who serves as a jury member of the Khortytsia Chords International Children and Youth Performing Arts Festival and Competition which is held in Zaporizhia.

“I sit on the jury for that competition, and you know, the children’s talented performance brings me great pleasure and makes me think: ‘Is not it too good to be real?’ These children often hail from small towns and workers’ settlements, such as Khartsyzk ... Mining is the only job on offer in many depressed settlements, so you need to show them that music lessons are important and promising,” Pivnenko told The Day. According to the artist, provincial children experience “their Kyiv trip and performing with an orchestra as a really fantastic event. It is a stimulus for their further development as musicians. I see this concert as a creative children’s festival,” Pivnenko explained.

According to the event’s organizers, supporting talented children is desperately needed today, because children have to feel that their efforts, hard work, inspiration, and creative quest are appreciated by audience and professional musicians. The concert will help the young musicians to feel themselves confident on the big stage, get experience working with professional musicians and simultaneously hear criticism from the metropolitan audience.

Overall, the concert will have 12 children aged 9 to 15 years performing, who have won honors and awards at many music competitions. All of them will debut on the Kyiv stage with this concert.

Organizers promise the concert will bring a new experience even to an experienced listener. “All comers will experience fantastically positive emotions, because these children play truly well. Admission is free, so I hope there will also be a lot of children who study music, too, in the audience. They will come and see what their colleagues are doing – and this is really inspiring,” Pivnenko explained. “There will be two saxophonists, a trumpeter, a nine-year-old vocalist from Zaporizhia, three violinists and three or four pianists. I will conclude the concert with Volodymyr Zubytsky’s Besame Mucho... I deliberately chose a Ukrainian work, because most children play the usual program that includes well-known and well-worn works. Quite a few of them know about some great concert works by Ukrainian composers.”

Young musicians will be accompanied by the Kyiv Camerata National Ensemble of Soloists conducted by Viacheslav Redia.

The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the National Music Academy. Admission is free.
