The Lithuanian-Ukrainian Friendship Festival #thankyoulithuania offered a Sakotis cake speed eating contest, a chance to taste Lithuanian dishes, a screening of documentaries, a folk songs show, and a dancing lesson.

Kyivite Larysa Avtamonova came there with her daughter and granddaughter. In an interview with The Day, the woman admitted that her family had been to Lithuania and “know a little bit about it.” “This festival is a very important event. President Dalia Grybauskaite does a lot to advocate for Ukrainians and is not afraid to speak the truth about Russia. Therefore, it comes as an expression of our gratitude for and recognition of Lithuania’s efforts,” she said. According to the event’s co-organizer Oleksandr Todorchuk, the idea of the festival “would occur to someone else had we failed to hit upon it.” “Last year showed that Lithuania was most helpful for Ukraine, as it was the first to advocate sanctions against Russia and sent us the necessary equipment. Meanwhile, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite now ranks first among Ukraine’s lobbyists abroad, having beaten all Ukrainian politicians. Lithuania is our only unquestionable friend,” Todorchuk said sharing his thoughts.

The organizers paid particular attention to children. One of the locations of the festival saw little ones passionately building from cardboard cubes... the most prominent buildings of Vilnius, including the Church of St. Anne, the city hall, and the presidential palace. Also, everyone was able to leave their words of gratitude for Lithuanians on a large stand which will be sent to Lithuania in early April.
