The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Science came up with a number of legal documents prohibiting the use of products containing synthetic dyestuffs, flavors, sweeteners, and preservatives for cooking school meals.

The head state sanitary inspector Serhii Ryzhenko also insists that schools and nearby foodstores should not sell fizzy drinks, potato chips, and foods containing genetically modified organisms, reports Ukrinform.

In light of the upcoming new school year, the head state sanitary inspector emphasizes that schoolchildren should eat only organic food.

Ryzhenko is convinced that school cafeterias sell too much citrus fruits and dubious sausages, which should be replaced with dairy and meat products containing all the necessary nutrients and vitamins.

Ryzhenko explained that it has to be done in order to prevent diseases of the children’s digestive system, as nowadays only one in ten school leavers is healthy at the moment of graduation, while the rest develop numerous chronic diseases over years of study, including the disorders of the digestive tract.
