Free Wi-Fi hotspots have been set up in the Shevchenko Park of Ternopil in early August, 2012. This is a joint project of the Ternopil City Council, BitterNet LLC and Columbus private enterprise. “We have resolved to provide free Internet access in the parks so that residents of the city and visitors could check email, send the necessary information or photos, and contact their families and friends through various social networks even when resting there,” Ternopil’s mayor Serhii Nadal stressed. According to Ivan Sorokalit, director of the municipal company Ternopil Interavia that streamlines cable networks in cooperation with providers, free Internet will be available in all Ternopil parks soon. Installation of the necessary equipment should be completed by the end of August, 2012. The Shevchenko Park was an obvious first target, as it is one of the most popular holiday destinations for the locals.
