Dedication to Franz Xaver

Lviv to host LvivMozArt, an international classical music festival
24 May, 17:52

The festival dedicated to the musical heritage of Mozart’s youngest son, Franz Xaver, who lived and worked in Lviv for 30 years (1808-38), will take place on August 18-25. “It will be an art project uniting top musicians from Ukraine and all over the world,” said LvivMozArt art director Oksana LYNIV, who some time ago left Lviv to become General Music Director of the Graz Opera in Austria.

The music forum’s agenda includes conferences, exhibits and, of course, concerts of chamber, church, vocal, and symphony music, including works for children. “Franz Xaver Mozart was busy with shaping Lviv’s music environment,” reminds Lyniv. “As a renowned pedagogue, pianist, conductor, and composer he founded St. Cecilia Choral Society, which in fact became Lviv’s first music association and started a new, European tradition of classical music performance. So the residents of Lviv should be proud that such a figure was involved in creating their city’s history.”

The concert bill of LvivMozArt includes 10 events scheduled to take place at the Potocki Palace, Dominican Cathedral, St. George Cathedral, Saints Peter and Paul Garrison Church, at the Philharmonic Society and the Opera House. “We are trying to overspill the conventional places, where people traditionally listen to classical music,” emphasized Lyniv. “In fact, the classics know no borders.”

The organizers intend to make LvivMozArt an annual festival.
