With 1990s hits and sparkling diamonds

10 March, 00:00

What do we associate spring with, especially the Italian Spring? With beautiful women, good music, light wine... A head-spinning spectacle, with people quickly falling in love, fixing dates. When men see their sweethearts’ eyes shining reflecting stars high above — or the shimmering of precious stones in their refined pieces of jewelry. Of course, the ideal way would be see those beloved eyes reflecting both stars and diamonds. If you cannot afford this, you might as well feel content to watch the reflection of the stars. If you can, it is worth discarding banalities and choosing something really chic, most importantly original, meaning something which is the only one of its kind. Anyway, this author had such ideas during the presentation staged by Noblesse Co. to commemorate the opening of the Avenue boutique specializing in multibrand watches and jewelry. There was a definite Italian (rather, Italian-Ukrainian) touch of ease and charm to the festive event.

Brief opening was addressed by the guests of honor Andrea Milano, Jean-Luc Buttini, and David Saturino, representing the reputed Italian jeweler trademarks Luca Carati, Piero Milano, and Staurino Fratelli. There was much music, with the first numbers performed by a quite extravagant Anastasia Stoska, followed by the famous rock group Ricchie Poveri, currently regarded as classics of sorts, remaining youthfully vigorous. By the way, I don’t know how the organizers selected their music, but I thought that they could not have made a better choice, for the trademarks on display were creative challenges, on the one hand, and manifested loyalty to the high classic style (actually dictated by the very cut of the precious stones) on the other.

Evidence of this was found in the course of the show. The first part highlighted fifteen jewelry collections ranging from Luca Carati to Piero Milano to Staurino Fratelli, titled Spring-Summer ’04, with the models parading in swimsuits boasting pieces of jewelry that looked bold, unusual, very much in vogue, offering totally unexpected designer solutions, at the same time looking just right for daily wear. The second part focused on other brands of the same trademarks but meant for special occasions — e.g., pieces of jewelry for evening dresses — in other words, for the Italian Spring.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT TRADEMARKS

Staurino Fratelli. This jewelry maison was founded in the 1960s, when Italian culture viewed the future with romantic optimism. Over the past forty years the company has produced countless jewelry masterpieces and is currently experiencing a fresh upsurge. At a recent jewelry show in Vicenza, experts recognized its trademark as a most promising one in terms of design. Here quite some credit is due the young brothers David and Stefano Staurino. Both are not only keeping up the family tradition, but also enriching their collections with modern approaches and overtones, coming up with prestigious and fashionable products. Precious stones and metals are turned into unique objets d’art playing with refined sparkling colors, with forms and proportions serving as graphic evidence of their primordial beauty conveyed through an endless creative process.

Luca Carati. Company founded in Valenza, in 1989, starting with a team of five jewelers focusing on design and quality. Their first collection was titled Opera House, with every precious stone handpicked from the world’s best suppliers. It made quite an impression on the jeweler community and Luca Carati’s handpicked approach had become a must in the company policy. At present, LC takes part in the most prestigious international exhibits, their collections appearing in the leading vogue periodicals. Their pieces of jewelry are sought by world celebrities and the company supplies custom-made products to the distinguished Japanese families and the royal courts of Bahrain and the Emirates. Their every product boasts the traditional jeweler’s skill combined with modern design and unique precious stone and metal quality; every collection shows classic style complimented by fantastic geometric shapes.

Piero Milano. Company founded by Piero and Luiggi Benzi, specializing in gold and platinum, as well as in semiprecious stones. New collections and lines appear every year, ranging from minimalist to romantic to symbolic to geometrical to deluxe to easy-to-use accessories, boasting a dazzling versatility of styles, so as to leave the most exacting customers dazzlingly satisfied.
