The Ukrainian national newspaper Den/The Day and Kodak Ukraine company announce a new international photo contest

Professionals and amateurs, this contest is for you! It is thanks to you that the river of time does not flow irreversibly into the past. Fixing the present in your photos, you create the chronicle of our time.

Den/The Day’s attitude toward the art of photography is best demonstrated by the collection of our publications for the past three and a half years. None of our 790 issues have appeared without photos showing a high professional level. Many photos first published in Den/The Day were presented at photo exhibitions in this country and abroad. In addition, Den/The Day has held two photo exhibitions coinciding with our newspaper’s second and third anniversaries. The second, last year’s exhibition confirmed the results of the first international photo contest conducted by Den/The Day together with the Kodak Ukraine Company. The exhibition, held in Kyiv and other cities, was highly appreciated. We have decided that this international contest should be made a tradition.

2000, in which we are holding our second international photo contest, as a special year. It marks the turn of the century. The twentieth century is receding into the past, a century marked by two world wars, beginning with social revolutions and ending with the global informational revolution.

It is this that determined the themes of our contest.

The photography contest organizers have instituted the following PRIZES:

Grand Prix: a professional Japanese-made camera.

In addition, three prizes will be awarded in each category:

First Prize: Kodak KD-70 photo camera;

Second Prize: Kodak KD-60 photo camera;

Third Prize: Kodak KE- 50 photo camera.

A Special Prize will be awarded by Den/The Day’s editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna.

The best photos submitted for the contest will be published in Den/The Day and made part of the traditional exhibition to be opened in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. They will also be placed on the Internet at our newspaper’s website.

FACES

We await your photos depicting people who have determined the face of our epoch, of well-known and unknown people who shouldered the twentieth century. е

DESTINIES

Photos illustrating the way the twentieth century impacted on the destinies of specific people. The range of genres is very broad: from portraits to reporter’s snapshots (including those from archives).

DAY

What is our time like? What kind of day do we live in at the turn of the century?

CENTURY

How does the outgoing twentieth century look in photos? How does the incoming twentieth century appear if watched through the camera lens?

The contest will be from January 21 until August 1, 2000.
