Cherkasy. Reenacting nobleness

In the 28th Route No. 1, Den explores the Cherkasy region, a land that saw grandiose events of our history
02 February, 17:55

Our today’s reality is also the result of the unlearned lessons of history. Society is now actively discussing this, while Den has been propagating for many years the simple truth: history protects. We have been introducing, by our own efforts, a system of mass-scale historical education, which includes our books, roundtables, university debates, the Museum Online project, Ukraine Incognita, and, naturally, our glossy.

The fresh issue of Route No. 1 is on the Cherkasy region, mostly Chyhyryn, a city at a crossroads of many “lines” of Ukrainian state-formation. It is a city with a rich history which we are still to learn fully. We must do so. The history of the lands that saw grandiose events hides the “keys” to understanding the current situation in Ukraine.

“Chyhyryn is an illustrative example of how the destiny of Ukraine was shaped whenever it got into the Russian Empire’s ‘force field’ and lost all of its cultural signs, instantly turning into a provincial town,” Den’s editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna says in her traditional introductory column. “But there were times in the history of Chyhyryn, when envoys from Turkey, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Italy, and other countries were coming and had to wait to be received by Bohdan Khmelnytsky. If more importance were attached to the reconstruction of our history, these countries, whose envoys had to sit and wait for reception, would be taking a more sympathetic look at the history of Ukraine…”

Den’s creative team prepared a lot of interesting things for the glossy Route No. 1. Chyhyryn. It is a good idea to begin with planning your travel, albeit a virtual one, across the Cherkasy region. It is simple to do so by means of “Aperitif for Tourists,” the map of the region’s most interesting spots with detailed information on what to see and how to get there. The Taras Shevchenko Museum in Cherkasy, an incredible relief of the Buky Canyon, a Trypillia culture museum in the village of Lehedzyne – you will know all this from our map.

Like in every fresh issue, there are original infographics on Chyhyryn.

Soccer player Oleksandr Kovpak, theater producer Serhii Proskurnia, head of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski, and novelist Vasyl Shkliar will also tell you about “their” Cherkassy region.

Do you want to know more about the Cherkasy people who did and still do open up new horizons? Read the article “Ukrainian ‘Columbuses’” about writer Viktor Suvorov, physicist Volodymyr Lyzohub, artist Danylo Narbut, and others.

You will also find the real Cherkasy cuisine in the fresh glossy – with addresses of the outlets that will serve you tasty food and recipes for those who want to feel the taste of Cherkasy at home. “You should feel your personal participation! Ukraine needs a real esthetic revolution with reenactments. To explore something at a distance is one thing, but to feel emotions over the land that saw grandiose events of our history is a totally different thing. And it does not matter that our history is not Versailles in this case. One must have a special set of semantic, educational, rational, and emotional keys that will help unlock any fortress,” Ms. Ivshyna sums up the column.
