December 19: 1917. A provisional All-Ukrainian Orthodox Church Council was established.

1990. The Organization of Soldiers’ Mothers of Ukraine was registered by Ministry of Justice.

December 20: 1699. Tsar Peter I proclaimed the reorganization of the Russian calendar according to which new year started on January 1 instead of September 1. 5. memorandum on mutual understanding between the governments of Ukraine and the G7 countries and Commission of the European Community on closing the Chornobyl NPP was signed in in in iOttawa.

1942. The Supreme Soviet of the USSR Presidium established medals For the Defense of Leningrad, For the Defense of Odesa, For the Defense of Sevastopol, and For the Defense of Stalingrad.

December 23: 1648. Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky triumphantly entered Kyiv after signing an armistice with Poland.

1873. The Taras Shevchenko Literary Society was founded in Lviv.

December 24: 1924. The Comintern Executive Committee ordered the dissolution of the Ukrainian Communist Party (Ukapisty).

1932. On order of Lazar Kaganovich the Communist Party (bolshevik) of Ukraine ordered the seizure from the peasants of seed grain hitherto exempt from expropriation.

1982. The An-124 Ruslan cargo aircraft made its maiden flight.

December 25: Gregorian Calendar Christmas.

1941. Kerch-Feodosiya landing operation started, in consequence of which Kerch peninsula was cleared of the German forces.

1992. The Vasyl Stus Memorial Cultural-Educational and Charitable Society to Defend People’s Rights was registered.
