1975: The largest Soviet oil tanker Kuban is launched by Kerch Shipyard in Ukraine.
September 21 1841: Kyiv University School of Medicine opens (currently Bohomolets Ukrainian State Medical University).
1993: Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine grants Leonid Kuchma’s resignation as Prime Minister of Ukraine.
September 22 1997: President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine visits the United States and attends UN General Assembly’s 52nd Session.
2002: Partisan Glory Day is marked in Ukraine for the first time.
September 23 1919: A joint meeting of the Directory and the governments of the Ukrainian National Republic and Western Ukrainian People’s Republic resolves to commence combat operations against Denikin’s army forthwith.
1995: Chyhyryn, former capital of Hetman’s Ukraine, hosts festivities commemorating Bohdan Khmelnytsky’s 400th birth jubilee.
September 24 1993: CIS economic union treaty is signed in Moscow. Ukraine states its being prepared to cooperate as an associate member.
1997: Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratifies the Law “On the Elections of People’s Deputies” based on a mixed electoral system.
September 25 1986: USSR Supreme Council Presidium confers the title “Hero of the Soviet Union” on Viktor Kybenko and Volodymyr Pravyk (posthumously), also on Leonid Teliatnykov, in recognition of their courage, heroism, and selfless dedication displayed in the course of search and rescue operations in the aftermath of the Chornobyl disaster.
2004: Kyiv marks the 70th anniversary of the restoration of its capital city status.
