Rockers promote healthy lifestyle in Kherson
The Fifth International Rock Festival “Step into the Future” will take place in Kherson from August 31 through September 1 under the slogan “No to drugs, smoking, and alcohol.” According to the organizers of the event, Kherson residents and visitors would be able to listen to the music of famous rock bands from Ukraine, Russia, Italy, the Netherlands, Estonia, Israel, and other countries only after they make a promise in front of everyone to give up bad habits.
“Rock singers will ask their audience to break off bad habits. Last year after the festival when young people were leaving the concert area they threw unopened packs of cigarettes and lighters in trash cans. We also have, perhaps, the only rock festival in the world where you would not find alcohol, even beer,” told The Day Volodymyr MAKUKHA, president of the festival “Step into the Future.” “The stereotype that associates rock music with alcohol and drugs has been created to a great extend artificially.”
In two days of the festival on the stage set on the waterfront of the city park there will perform such bands as Morton, White Tower, Regime, Yansen Kukansen, Fabula, Vitryla (Ukraine), Jayce Lewis (Great Britain), OneLegMan (Italy), and My Favorite Scar (the Netherlands), as well as Mellowtoy (Italy), The Fading (Israel), Cantilena (Estonia), Riff Action Family, August (Russia), and famous German band Oomph.
By the way, in Ukraine, according to the research made within the framework of the project “European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs” (ESPAD), 86 percent of teenagers aged 15 to 17 have tried alcohol, 51 percent of boys from this group admitted that, despite the prohibition by law, if necessary, they can easily get cigarettes, 68 percent do not consider it a problem to buy soft drinks, and 61 percent think the same about beer. Overall 11 percent of the respondents said they know where in their city they can get marijuana or hashish.
