A metallic “sleeping dragon”

Director of an automobile repair shop (pictured left) decided to construct a huge sculpture of Chinese statesman Guan Yu from scrap metal. His craftsmen are constructing the sculpture using exclusively recycled car parts. They plan to finish the job in mid-February, when it will reach a height of about 10 meters and weigh 10 tons.

Guan Yu became famous thanks to his courage and unflinching loyalty to his master Liu Bei. He was canonized as the god of war in 1594. The Chinese have erected close to 1,000 monuments, temples, and sculptures in his honor. People called him a “sleeping dragon” because of his ability to find a quick and victorious solution to any difficult situation. There is also a legend that it was a dragon who bestowed his power on the future general. In addition, the invention of certain types of weapons is sometimes attributed to this military leader as well.
