Luxembourg White Slave Dealers Arrested

10 March, 00:00

Odesa security service officers have busted a ring of so-called recruiters who set up a private foreign employment center in the city. They advertised in central and regional printed media legal job opportunities for young women as striptease dancers in the night clubs of Luxembourg. Choreographic skills and command of a foreign language were not on the list of mandatory conditions. Special emphasis was put on the age and appearance of Ukrainian beauties who were obligatorily photographed seminude in Odesa’s photo shops before signing the contract. Their snapshots were most carefully studied by the future employers because it is the dancers’ looks that were supposed to attract customers at Luxembourg’s places of entertainment.

The Security Service Odesa branch reports that the recruiters devised an utterly simple scheme of pulling a fast buck. The girls signed three-to-six-month contracts that provided for monthly pay of $1600. Then the dancers had their contracts withdrawn and additionally took a written commitment to give their “benefactors” $2000 within the first two months of staying abroad as payment for organizing their travel to Luxembourg. Incidentally, Russia recruiters set a far lower fee — $500 US. Yet, our compatriot girls would in fact receive much less than was stipulated in the contract, after food, medical insurance, visa extension, etc., costs were deducted. The Odesa recruiters were modestly tacit about what was really in store for the Ukrainian girls who would like to return to Ukraine with the money they earned. The dealers have sent more than a hundred of young women from Ukraine’s various regions to Luxembourg in three years of hectic business activity. Moreover, official documents say that only five Ukrainian citizens have been employed in Luxembourg’s night clubs since the business was launched. It was found out, however, that the recruiters had received more than $15,000 US through just one of the many Odesa post offices that deal with international money remittal.
