“The future has an absolute ear”

The intellectual events of nationwide importance have become more frequent in Ukraine. One of them is the thematic presentation “The future has an absolute ear,” which will take place on April 9 in the premises of the Mystetsky Arsenal with the participation of Ivan Dziuba and Lina Kostenko.

An impetus to this meeting was the publishing of Ivan Dziuba’s book There are Poets for Epochs (Lybid Publishers, 2012), which contains a biographic interview with Lina Kostenko.

This work is a result of Dziuba’s literary studies.

The event will take place in somewhat unusual format combining a book launch and a roundtable attended by the leading Ukrainian intellectuals. What did Ukrainians expect from the independence? What have we failed to achieve? What is the destiny of intellectuals in modern Ukrainian society?

All these questions will be discussed together with Ivan Dziuba and Lina Kostenko by the well-known Ukrainian journalists, historians, philosophers, and guests of the event.

Those will include Vadym Skurativsky, Larysa Ivshyna, Vitalii Portnikov, Serhii Trymbach, Iryna Herashchenko, Ihor Losiev, Serhii Hrabovsky, Olha Herasymiuk, Volodymyr Panchenko; the meeting will be moderated by Sviatoslav Tseholko.

Besides, the guests will see a performance of Olha Bohomolets, who will sing the songs whose lyrics were written by Lina Kostenko, a traditional feature of almost every long-awaited public appearance of the poetess.

“The experience of previous presentations made us look for a new form: book as an impetus. This is an impetus to a serious conversation, from different angles, attended by experts from different spheres, sociologists, historians, and journalists. Our discussion will be addressed to the youth above all, this is our message to the future.

Besides, this is a unique chance to see together two outstanding Sixtiers, who are not frequently seen together,” the co-organizer of the meeting, head of the Lybid Publishers Svitlana Holovko explained. “This is not a usual presentation ceremony, this will be a serious debate attended by professionals, who will build their reports on the topic in the book, which is close to them. We will also give an opportunity to the audience to communicate with the authors and experts.”
