“ARMOR-PIERCING POLITICAL WRITING”

The Day is bringing to the Lviv Forum of Publishers a whole new series of books, “Armor-piercing political writing.” This formidable title was not accidental, for this series includes the best works of Ukrainian political writing of the 10th-20th centuries with the foreword written by our outstanding contemporaries.

After the thick books The Day has published over the past 10 years, we have decided to experiment with the format and publish a collection of 15 small-format books. Each of them includes the works or extracts from large journalistic writings, by Mykola Khvyliovy, Yevhen Malaniuk, Oleh Olzhych, Ulas Samchuk, Levko Yurkevych, Petro Hryhorenko, George Shevelov, Ivan Lysiak-Rudnytsky, Viacheslav Lypynsky, Vasyl Stus, and Ivan Bahriany. Each book is dedicated to one writer.

The aim of the “armor-piercing” collection is to familiarize the society with the classic of Ukrainian political writing. We are convinced that for the majority of Ukrainians the thoughts of Shevelov, Malaniuk, and Franko may come as a revelation, which will allow them look at the country, our present day and tomorrow in a new way. For the problems broached by the classics are still topical. Meanwhile, Ukrainians for the largest part don’t even know that this golden political writing fund exists.

“At a time of seemingly overproduced information, the Ukrainians have come across an acute shortage of their own high-quality intellectual product. There are a lot of people who need wise interlocutors. There are a lot of wise books that need readers. And what is in between is the feeling of something that resembles a formidable Berlin Wall,” Larysa IVSHYNA, editor-in-chief of Den and author of the idea of publication, says in her address to readers.
