1849: Bukovyna becomes a separate Austrian Kronland (crown land – the Austrian part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) and is declared Herzogtum Bukowina (nominal duchy).

1918: The Small Rada adopts the Law on Registration of Citizenship of the Ukrainian National Republic.

1919: The Council of People’s Commissars [Radnarkom] of the Ukrainian SSR adopts a decree abolishing tuition.

1944: Forces of the 1st Ukrainian Front launch the Proskuriv-Chernivtsi offensive.

1963: The Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine resolves to publish a Ukrainian version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

1989: Kyiv hosts the constituent conference of the Memorial Ukrainian Historical and Educational Society.

1990: The first democratic elections to councils on all levels are held in Ukraine.
