Croatia Commemorates Holodomor Victims

02 December, 00:00

The Republic of Croatia is observing the Days of Memory of the Victims of the 1932-1933 Manmade Famine in Ukraine. A memorial soiree was held at Zagreb Central City Library on the initiative of Ukraine’s Embassy to Croatia to mark Holodomor’s seventieth anniversary. The program included speeches by Croatian historians and opening an exhibition featuring photographs and archive documents on Holodomor. A draft statement by Ukrainian and Rusyn Croatians on Condemning the 1932-1933 Events was also read at the soiree. Those present called upon supporting the initiative on sending an address from Ukrainian and Rusyn organizations to the newly elected Croatian Parliament, urging it to approve a decision on Holodomor anniversary. On December 7 a memorial service will be officiated at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in Zagreb for the victims of Holodomor and political repression in Ukraine. Similar services will be performed in all Greek Catholic churches in Croatia, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, places of Ukrainian compact settlement, reports the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s press service.
