Exhibition “Journey to the Past” was presented for the visitors of the museum. The exhibition tells the story of the village of Starunia in Bohorodchany raion, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast: there in the mineral wax mines over 100 years ago (in 1907) carcasses of mammoth and hairy rhinoceros were found. “These findings are considered the most valuable exhibits of the museum,” said Andrii Bokotei, curator of the exhibition.

“It is very symbolic that the exhibition opened in late 2012, which became a landmark year for our museum,” Natalia Dziubenko, chief curator of the museum, told The Day. “We won the contest ‘Dynamic Museum’ organized by the Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation ‘Development of Ukraine’ (The Day wrote about it in the issue No. 68 of November 8, 2012) and received ten million hryvnias. Work on the implementation of the project will begin in 2013 and will continue until 2015. During this time we plan to make our museum the best natural history museum in Ukraine and one of the best in Europe. It is hard work but we take over it gladly and with full responsibility to future visitors of the Natural History Museum in Lviv.”
