Ukrainian Opera Stars Shine Abroad

25 January, 00:00

A group of National Opera performers will set off on a long concert tour abroad on January 26. Germany is the first point on the itinerary. The repertoire includes the best ballet renditions: Swan Lake, Spartacus, and recent premieres (The Vikings and Firebird). A week later, the group will be joined by operatic soloists to perform Tsar’s Fiancee, Rigoletto, Eugene Onegin, and Nabucco. Germany will be followed by Switzerland, Holland, Denmark, and France. In a word, the schedule will be very tight: one or two days per city. The tour will end with Nabucco staged in Avignon March 12.

Petro Chupryna, National Opera Director General, believes that “we have things to feel proud about and show foreign audiences. Unlike our Bolshoi colleagues, whose reputation is seriously damaged by haphazard obsolete renditions with billboards featuring world-renowned names, we try to keep our reputation and show top-level mastery. What we need is professional image-building publicity. My cherished dream is make our company known throughout the world.”
