August 8 through 28 the National Philharmonic Society of Ukraine is for the third time hosting the Summer Music Rays Festival (orchestra music).

Kyivites and guests of the capital have been missing lofty music, and the organizers of the forum are offering a nice opportunity to visit the concerts in the hall with the best acoustics and listen to the works of outstanding composers performed by leading orchestras of our country.

The idea of the festival is a brainchild of director general of the philharmonic society Dmytro Ostapenko. Summer is a dead season: theaters and concert halls are closed, but many tourists visit Kyiv in this period. The organizers of the forum decided, in particular, to please all music lovers, so that they could enjoy lofty music in August. It will be recalled that for the first time the festival was held in 2010 and was warmly welcomed by the audience. This year the festival is taking place for the third time and includes 12 concerts of orchestra music.

The festival will be opened by musicians of Kyiv Chamber Orchestra (conductor: Vitalii Protasov) and soloists Ksenia Moroz, Iryna Klimashevska, and Viktor Ivanov (violin) who have prepared an interesting program. The Academic Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic Society of Ukrainian conducted by Mykola Diadiura will invite the audience to join The Journey to Reims (except for the overture to Rossini’s opera it will perform Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony), and together with guitarist Andrii Ostapenko the musicians will perform Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo. A present for music lovers will be the performances of the National Academic Brass Orchestra of Ukraine (conductor Oleksii Roshchak, and Oleksii Bazhenov will take the conductor’s baton in the last concert of the festival) and chamber ensemble Kyivski Solisty. The soloists, such as Taras Yaropud, Ihor Riabinin, Natalia Bulat, Karina Lebed, Oleksii Kolesnyk, Serhii Toporenko, Mykhailo Bilych, Oleksandra Savchenko, Anastasia Chop (violin), Yurii Litun (oboe), Serhii Kazakov, Iryna Kozlova (cello), Kateryna Diadiura (piano) will also show their mastery.

Popular classical music prevails in the repertoire, but there will also be jazz and modern popular pieces and movie soundtracks. The programs also include works by Gioachino Rossini, Joaquin Rodrigo, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Antonio Vivaldi, Tomaso Albioni, George Frideric Handel, Benjamin Britten, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, Bela Bartok, Igor Stravinsky, Johann Sebastian Bach, Sergei Prokofiev, Johannes Brahms, Astor Piazzola, George Gershwin, Alexander Miller, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and other composers as well as songs from the repertoire of Freddie Mercury, Paul Mauriat, The Beatles, and ABBA.
